Windsurfing: Hayling Island Wind Direction: e Wind Stength: 14/20 Surf / Sea State: choppy and flat Air Temperature: 24 Sea Temperature: 18 Weather: sunny Max Speed: 24.24 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 41 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
We are having a few days away in our lovely little campervan - the first
time since April !!! We started with a couple of days at our son who works
in an activity centre in Surrey where we tried out their amazing new cave -
like in big flume you crawl around on your hands and knees with a hard hat
and light on - great fun :) We then headed to Hayling Island, the closest
sea and stopped just over the bridge and biked the 'Billy Line' cycle path
along the beach and back top day.We then parked at the top spot for free by
the Esso garage overlooking the lovely Langstone Harbour. Then today to
woke to brilliant sunshine and a nice east breeze building, I had to wait a
while for the tide to come in then I rigged the 9.4 and set off to sail
around the Island, which I haven't done for years - the last time I did it
there were 500+ other windsurfers with me!!! Ar midday I had carried my
gear across a couple of hundred metres of mud and set off down Langstone
harbour toward the sea, I went this way to get the sea leg done first
before it got any windier and I might have struggled to get under the
bridge with the water being low. It was a good reach across the harbour
past the broken 'Mulbury harbour' section and into the fast incoming tide
and the narrow section by the ferry and pub where the wind was very gusty
but I managed to beat the flow and make it out to sea and the roughest
section of the seafront. I managed to make it past the rolling surf, a few
kiters and windsurfers were out including a sail I reconised - Antony Todd
:) It was a challenging beat along the approx 4/5 open sea section in a
perfect breeze for the job. I made it to the river expecting to find flat
water but it was very choppy :( It flatterned off a little farther inland
and I enjoyed some nice reaches across the river here in a freshening
breeze, there were a few other shortboard sailers out enjoying the
fantastic weather. I then sailed into Chichester harbour before heading to
Northney marina and the road bridge, by this tim the tide was very high and
I had to drop in the water and swim my gear under. I then had a great hour
or so reahing the full length of Langstone Harbour - flatout :) East is a
top direction and great fun. The only down side is it is very shallow in
places and there is alot of weed !!! So I was on the water for 4 hours
solid making this my best session of the year -5 stars easy :) Mag was
abit worried and was wondering at what point she rang the coast guard ? I
am a worry !
